When David and Lauren first sat down with the team at DRAW Design Studios, they arrived with surprisingly few requirements.
No binders full of sketches. No elaborate spreadsheets. No highly detailed room lists.
Just one very clear vision.
“We want a home filled with glass.”
After years of living in darker, compartmentalized spaces, the couple knew they wanted something entirely different for their next chapter. They had recently purchased two expansive side-by-side lots in Edmonton and dreamed of creating a modern home that felt open, calming, and deeply connected to the outdoors.
Natural light was everything to them.
From the beginning, the project became an exercise in restraint, balance, and intentionality. Rather than overcrowding the design with unnecessary complexity, the focus shifted toward creating an experience — one where architecture, landscape, and light all worked together seamlessly.
Large expanses of glass became the defining feature of the home, but not simply for appearance. Every major window placement was carefully considered to frame views, maximize daylight, and create constantly changing moments throughout the day and across the seasons. Morning light pours into the kitchen and breakfast area. Afternoon sun fills the central living spaces. At night, the home glows softly from within against the surrounding landscape.
The architecture itself embraced a clean modern aesthetic, but warmth remained a critical priority throughout the process. Natural materials, layered textures, and carefully balanced proportions kept the home feeling inviting rather than stark.
As the design evolved, David and Lauren became increasingly excited about how the home would actually feel to live in — not just how it would look in photographs.
One of their favourite moments during the process came when reviewing early 3D visuals of the main living area. The sunlight filtering through the two-storey glass wall immediately brought the project to life. What had started as a simple request suddenly felt tangible and real.
Today, the completed design reflects exactly what they had hoped for from the beginning: a home that feels bright, peaceful, and connected to the world outside its walls.
Sometimes the best projects begin not with a long list of demands, but with one clear idea — and the opportunity to thoughtfully build an entire home around it.
