When Sarah and Michael first walked into DRAW Design Studios, they didn’t arrive with a completed vision or a binder full of detailed sketches.

Sarah couldn’t read blueprints.
Like many of our clients, she was incredibly visual. Throughout the design process, our inbox filled with Instagram reels, Pinterest images, photographs, and videos — each one capturing a feeling rather than a specific detail. Rarely did she point to one feature and say, “I want exactly this.” Instead, she would explain why she loved a particular space, how the light entered a room, or how an entryway made her feel.
Our job became translating hundreds of moments of inspiration into one cohesive home.
Rather than asking her to interpret floor plans, we reversed the process. During each presentation, we walked her through the home as though she were already living there.
“You’ll walk through the front doors and immediately see the staircase framed ahead of you. Turn to your left and the dining room opens through a wide arched opening. Continue forward and the great room unfolds toward the backyard…”
Little by little, the drawings became something she could experience instead of simply observe.
As the design evolved, every decision was measured against the original vision. Would this detail feel timeless? Did this space feel warm? Was there enough softness in the architecture? Could family naturally gather here?
Even the lower level reflected the family’s personality, with plans for a hidden Nashville-inspired speakeasy that would become the perfect place to entertain friends long after dinner upstairs had ended.
One of the most rewarding moments came early in the process, before a single line had been drawn.
After seeing our portfolio, Sarah simply looked across the table and said,
“You design beautiful homes. That’s why we’re here.”
It was a compliment we’ll never forget—but it also set a high standard for everything that followed.
Today, the design reflects exactly what she imagined from the very beginning—not because every Instagram reel found its way into the plans, but because every conversation helped uncover the feeling she had been searching for all along.
